Leader thanks people for enthusiastic turnout Tehran Times Political Desk TEHRAN - Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a statement here on Tuesday appreciating the Iranian people’s massive participation in Friday’s elections.
“The elections once again made the skeptics and the ill-willed understand the meaning of religious democracy,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The third local council elections and fourth Assembly of Experts elections were held in tandem on Friday. The second by-elections of the seventh Majlis were also held in the three constituencies of Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat, and Eslamshahr; Bam; and Ahvaz.
“The enthusiastic and massive participation of the people in the polls became a scene displaying the power, self-confidence, and vigilance of the Iranian nation,” the Leader added.
The psychological war waged by enemies attempting to discourage the people from voting could not shake the national determination in the least, he noted.
He called the vote a clear message that the Iranian nation is alive, enthusiastic, and hopeful and will not rest till they achieve their high goals.
It was a message that the Iranians are strengthening their bonds with the Islamic system, whose goal is to promote justice, dignity, and national strength.
Ayatollah Khamenei thanked the people and all the officials involved in holding the elections.
